Chasing Sunsets With John & Liz Kilby

Chasing Sunsets

Well, you’ve packed the 4WD for that Easter break, your prep has begun! You’ve drafted the menu, been to the supermarket, checked the tyres, filled the gas bottle, snuck in a couple of new fishing lures… but what about the battery?

With the addition of 3 days leave, you may be preparing for a tidy little break this Easter, so here’s a couple of things that might help make that outdoor adventure comfortable and totally worth the wait.

Whether you’re heading to the beach or the bush reliability is key. Modern days vehicles give little to no warning of impending battery failure, so first and foremost having your battery tested is a sure-fire way of avoiding this inconvenience

Whether it’s the vehicle or deep cycle battery, there are practical things that can also be done at home:

  • Firstly, check the batteries state of charge with a voltmeter or similar, it should be above 12.5 volts.
  • If the battery is maintainable, check the electrolyte levels and top up as per manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensure that the terminals are clean & firmly fastened, the battery is securely held down with the hold down bracket and keep the top of the battery clean.

Remember, Battery World can help you test your battery and fit a new one for free should you need one. Your local battery expert will make sure you also have all the accessories you want (and need) for that home away from home adventure like inverters, chargers, fridges portable solar and more!
